Starting eleven against Santa Lucia - Credits Domenic Aquilina
Gudja United maintain a 10 point lead on third placed Santa Lucia following a 2-2 draw against the same Santa Lucia side and are now only one win away from a historic promotion to the Maltese Premier League. Naxxar Lions also close in on Santa Lucia as they reached them on level points in the third position.
Both sides lived up to the expectation of the importance of the match as they both offered a very high level of football throughout the entire match. Santa Lucia were slightly better in the first half but Gudja United responded with an excellent second half.
Although it lacked some serious goal opportunities, the first half still offered a good level of football. Santa Lucia went one up some few minutes after the 30 minutes, whilst Emerson Vella for Gudja denied Santa Lucia a second goal with a brilliant block just on the goal line. Gudja responded with set pieces with two clear opportunities but first Jonathan Bondin headed out a Jackson Lima free kick and later Jackson Lima from a direct free kick hit the woodwork.
Gudja United commenced the second half immediately on the attack and after only a few minutes, Miguel Attard was tripped into the box and JACKSON LIMA from the spot made the score 1-1. It only lasted a few minutes and Santa Lucia were back in the lead with a fine header.
Gudja United were not happy with the result. They went all out once again and after just two minutes, RAFA KOOH SOHNA deflected a Llywelyn Cremona powerful long range shot and equalised once again. From now on we can say it was only Gudja on the attack with Santa Lucia only trying their luck with a couple of long range shots.
In the final five minutes Gudja United sieged the Santa Lucia box with one scoring opportunity after another, but Shalon Diacono, Rafa Kooh Sohna, Adolphus Marshall and Llewelyn Cremona all failed to score as the match ended 2-2.
Gudja will now face Naxxar Lions on Sunday afternoon at the Victor Tedesco Stadium at 18:15 and in case of a win Gudja United will secure a historic promotion to the Maltese Premier League.
