GUDJA APPOINT RENZO KERR CUMBO AS HEADCOACH

Gudja United have reached an agreement with Renzo Kerr Cumbo to take over as head coach until the end of the season.

The Southerners have been looking to find a new head coach after last week Jesmond Zammit has agreed with the Premier League club to part ways with the club.

Since then, Gudja have been hovering over the market to find a replacement and they have set their sights on a familiar face when they have reached an agreement to appoint Kerr Cumbo as first-team coach.

Kerr Cumbo has already been part of Gudja United’s technical setup a few years back when the club was playing in the Challenge League.

This will be the first time that Kerr Cumbo will be in charge of a Premier League club as his previous experiences in the Maltese top flight has been working as an assistant coach with Clive Mizzi at various clubs.

Kerr Cumbo acted as assistant to Mizzi during their spells at Mqabba FC, Sliema Wanderers and Tarxien Rainbows.

At Gudja United, Kerr Cumbo has a challenging job in his hands to try and revive the club’s fortunes after a disappointing start to the season.

Gudja United have yet to register a win since the start of the season as they only managed six draws from their opening 11 matches that left them bottom of the standings with six points, level with Santa Lucia and Sirens.

Sources have told the Times of Malta that Gudja United are set to make a major overhaul of their squad next month in their bid to step up their drive to avoid relegation.

The club have been linked with moves for forwards Owusu Akomeah and Andreas Panayioutou but the club told the Times of Malta that these players are just two of a number of foreign players that will arrive at the club in the coming days to be evaluated by the new technical staff before being offered a contract.

Gudja United resume their Premier League commitments on Sunday, January 7 when they face Sliema Wanderers.
